Aetiology
- Up to 80% due to Respiratory Syncytial Virus
- Common in young children - most common cause of a serious lower respiratory tract infection in children under 1
- Winter epidemics
Clinical presentation
- Fever, coryza, cough
- Wheeze
- Severe cases - grunting, decreased PaO2, intercostal drawing
Investigations
- PCR on throat/pernasal swabs
