Aetiology

  • Main complication of acute tonsillitis

Pathophysiology

  • Bacteria between the muscle and the tonsil produce puss

Clinical presentation

  • Unilateral throat pain and odynophagia
  • Trismus
  • 3-7 days of preceding acute tonsillitis
  • Medial displacement of tonsil and uvula
  • Concavity of palate lost

Management

  • Aspiration and IV antibiotics
