Seborrhoeic Keratosis

Benign epidermal tumour - also called basal cell papillomas

Aetiology

  • Benign proliferation of epidermal keratinocytes
  • Very common in ageing skin
  • Eruptive appearance of many lesions may indicate internal malignancy - Leser-Trelat sign

Clinical presentation

  • Very well demarcated, raised, usually brown coloured lesion
  • Common on face and trunk
  • Stuck on appearance - greasy hyperkeratotic surface
  • Typical surface appearance - small cysts/depressions/warty

Management

  • Reassurance, most need no treatment
  • If patient would like removal - cryotherapy, curettage
