Superficial form of cellulitis localised to dermis and lymphatic system
Aetiology
- Causative organism: Strep. pyrogenes
Clinical presentation
- Most commonly affects the face and is a spreading well demarcated, erythematous plaque
- Associated symptoms: fever and systemic upset
Investigations
- Usually clinical diagnosis
- Cultures from possible portals of entry may be indicated in some circumstances e.g. if patient is very unwell
Management
- Flucloxacillin - oral, IV if person is unable to take oral or is severely unwell
